Barrett Junction Outlaw Race

Big thanks go out to Frank & Michelle Waterhouse for putting on an epic "Outlaw" race at Barrett Junction. Practice all day Saturday for Gravity Bikers, Inliners, Downhill Skateboarders, Lugeboarders and Streetlugers. We all decided to blow off qualifying and just pea-pick for bracketing on Sunday. The traditional authentic Mexican dinner at Panchos in Tecate for the 20+ riders who were shuttled down by the U-Haul cost less than $100. Thanks to Chris McBride for scoring that truck.
Beautiful weather all weekend long. Most riders camped out Saturday night at the bottom of the hill. We had 28 streetlugers, 12 lugeboarders, 12 downhillers in addition to the inliners and gravity bikers. Several people pitched in to make sure that there were corner marshalls, starters, drivers, finish line judges, trophies, prizes, a raffle... My entry fees for three events averaged less than 20 bucks per event.
Round-robin style heats instead of single-eliminations guaranteed everyone multiple runs down the hill. The points earned in the round-robin set up finals that positioned riders on the podium. All of the riders agreed to a "no false start" rule which meant that only a flagrant false start would result in a re-start without penalty or disqualifications. The racing was great. There were no serious injuries, no banning of equipment, no squabbling over petty little things that don't really matter. All of the pegged and pegless streetlugers wept as they held hands and sang "Ebony and Ivory". It was beautiful.
At the end of the day, Dave Rogers was triple Gold! Congratulations Dave, you rip.
