S.F. Gravity Festival November 9-10
Registration and more Information

Posted By: Robert Wurgaft on Date: 8/27/02 @ 3: 29 a.m.

The San Francisco Gravity Festival WILL go on!

Over the flaccid resistance of the nay-sayers in the neighborhood, we have selected a new date of November 9th and 10th. We will not be stopped! I am commited to making this a memorable event.

We will have two trucks to haul riders to the start line, you will have enough practice runs to make you dizzy. The course is a loop back to the start, so it will take two minutes to get to the start, with no truck driving back up the course. The hotel ($54.00- sngl./ $74.00-dbbl.) is 5 minutes from the course and has sauna and indoor pool. We will have catered gourmet food at the event. I'm working on getting a bus to drive us for the riders party.

This event is intended to be a showcase for Street Luge and all Gravity Sports.

If I can get more than 40 entries total, there will be a nice cash purse.

We are working relentlessly (check the time of my post) to make this a safe and exciting race.
Keep checking for updates!

S.F. Gravity Festival Sept. 27-29

Posted By: Robert Wurgaft on Date: 8/5/02 @ 4: 32 a.m.

We are proud to announce the first "S. F. Gravity Festival" to be held September 27 to 29 in McLaren Park atop the hills of San Francisco, California, USA.

Utilizing one of the original courses scouted for the X-Games, the race will start in the park on smooth, clean, wide, undivided pavement. We immediately drop at an average 14% grade down a 180deg. right sweeper for a fast start. After a quick transition to a 90deg. left, the course gradually flattens in the straight leading up to a small rise that hides the negative-camber, hard left onto the 19% grade of Cambridge Street for a spectacular, high-speed finish with a nice uphill runout!

This race will be the Fall Nationals for IGSA, so come and get the points!

Course length is 6/10ths of a mile with many drafting and passing opportunities and a hairy left turn that will require braking.

The riders party Sat. night will be a Beach Bonfire Blowout reminiscent of the original Burning Man Beach Parties!

Sequential photos/ video of the course will be available to post as soon as we complete a test run on Sun. Aug. 11. If you care to join us on this "slightly outlaw" test run, contact me at:

Sunday morning 9:00am would be good, possibly 5PM or 6PM could also work, let me know.

Hello Racers,

Westwood Ski and Sports Club and the International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) are pleased to announce the
2002 California Championship gravity racing series, with races at West LA College and Mammoth for skateboard, inline skate, classic luge (buttboard), pegless luge, street luge, and gravity bikes. All races will count towards the IGSA world rankings, including slalom this year! There will be a variety of prizes at each race, and at the end of the series there will be special series awards for the top point-getters.

Each of the dates will have racing for several sports and practice available at a reduced price for the sports not competing on that date. The events will take place rain or shine, but if it rains the schedules may change (for example a tight slalom might be postponed for rain, but luge would race in the rain).

The season starts on Sunday May 5 (Cinco de Mayo!) at West LA College, with a skateboard tight slalom race on B Street Luge (all 3 kinds), downhill inline, and gravity bikes on C Street. D Street will be available for slalom and giant slalom practice.

May 5 Schedule:
9:00 Setup
10:00 Registration and practice starts
11:30 Downhill qualifying (luge, inline, bike)
12:00 Tight slalom race
1:00 Downhill races
3:30 Awards ceremony
4:00 End of permit time

The series dates are:
Date Local Org. Disciplines
May 5 WLAC IGSA/WWSC DH + tight slalom
May 19 WLAC IGSA/WWSC DH
Jun 30 WLAC WWSC/IGSA GS + tight slalom
Jul 21 WLAC IGSA/WWSC DH

Dec 8 WLAC IGSA/WWSC DH + tight slalom

Notes:
"DH" = luge, gravity bike, inline downhill
"GS" = inline and skateboard fast slalom or giant slalom
Sports not listed may practice

Also, the first few who come early to help with the street cleaning and setup in the morning will receive a free race entry!

Manufacturers and shop owners, it's not too late to supply prizes for these races! You can even just show up with something to add to the prize pool, and bring your banner to hang. We'll be sure to mention you in upcoming announcements.

Protective gear: for slalom and giant slalom helmets, pads (elbow and knee), and hand protection (gloves and/or wrist guards) are required, and hip pads are recommended. Please, no short shorts or tank tops. For street luge, buttboard, and gravity bikes, IGSA equipment rules will be used (helmets, leathers, and leather gloves are required). We're building an equipment pool to loan to people who forget things, please donate your old gear, it may save someone a long trip home!

See you there!

Correct, there will be no IGSA race at Barrett until the fall. With the addition of the EDI race at Barrett on April 27-28, it didn't seem like a good idea to schedule a race at the same location a week later. Sorry about that. Hope to see you in LA!

IGSA and Westwood Sports Club are pleased to announce the 2002 California Championship Series, with races starting May 5 at West LA College, and continuing through December. All races (including slalom this year) will count towards the IGSA world rankings, as well as being used to declare season champions. Each date will include several kinds of races, as well as practice for the sports that aren't racing.

May 5 (Cinco de Mayo!) will include street luge, pegless luge, classic luge (buttboard), gravity bike, inline downhill, and tight slalom races. All details (times, fees, etc.) will be available in about a week, and will be posted at the IGSA website and emailed out. If you're not already on my email list and would like to be, please email me and indicate the sports that interest you.

Hello everyone. A lot of things have happened in my personal life in the last two weeks and over the past four months. First I would like to apoligize for the lack of communication over the past few weeks. For all of those who feel the IGSA is doomed or dead, I hope we can prove you wrong...

...Since we are so close to the announced date of the Spring Nationals and the information was not distributed, I have decided to move the event back to May 3,4,5. The full info will be up on the IGSA site early this week. I have figured out the budget for the Barrett Junction event and we will need at least 29 people entering two classes to break even. If you guys decided that you still wish to support the event and the IGSA the event will be fine. If you no longer wish to support the events, please tell me so I won't lose the money.

I hope I have been able to clear up the situation.

Marcus Rietema IGSA President
