1st ANNUAL TALIMENA DRIVE XTREME DOWNHILL
Talimena, Oklahoma
June 15 & 16 2002

Champions will be crowned in Street Luge, Classic Luge (Buttboard), Downhill Skateboard, Fairing Gravity Bike, Stock Gravity Bike, and Downhill Inline.

The Course: The Talimena Xtreme Downhill is a 1.1-mile section of road located on the Talimena Drive just west of SH 259 in Southeastern Oklahoma. This course has it all. Great acceleration with grades up to 16%, a chicane followed by a decreasing radius turn, hard braking curves with top speeds in the mid 60 mph range.

This is a great technical road, nicknamed "Crash Course" by the Oklahoma locals. This course is 1.13 miles long with an average grade of 11%, and a maximum grade of 16%. Racers will start at an elevation of 1,971 feet, dropping 564 feet to 1,407 feet at the finish. There is an uphill breaking area after the finish. The course has several very steep sections gaining speeds in the mid to upper 60's (mph) with a gnarly chicane and a series of sharp turns you have to break for.

The course is also registered on www.gravityDB.com. Check out the MSN TerraServer Topographical image and the Aerial Photograph of the course. To the left you can see the Winding Stair "primitive" camping area with solar heated showers, And to the right you can see the intersection with Hwy. 259 leading to Poteau, OK. The staging area and starting line will be near the Winding Stair campgrounds.
